SplitFree

Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 July 2026 · applies to the SplitFree Android app (app.splitfree.client)

SplitFree splits bills between friends. It does not show ads, does not track you across other apps or websites, and contains no analytics or advertising SDK. It does not request your advertising ID.

Location, contacts, calendar, SMS, call logs, microphone, and health data are never accessed. The app declares no permission for any of them.

Who it is shared with

Your data is not sold, and not shared with advertisers or data brokers. It is processed by two providers acting on our behalf:

Other people see only what the app shows them: your name, photo, and the expenses you actually share with them. Someone you share nothing with cannot see your ledger.

Notification text can include an amount and a name (for example, a payment reminder). If your phone is set to show notification content on the lock screen, that text is visible there. You can change this in Android under Settings → Notifications → Sensitive notifications.

How long it is kept

Your data is kept while your account exists. Delete your account and it is removed. Expenses that other people are still party to are anonymised rather than erased, so that their ledger stays correct — your name is replaced and your email, UPI ID and photo are removed.

Deletion happens immediately, not on a delay, and there is no waiting period in which the account can be restored. Anonymised entries have no personal detail left in them and are kept for as long as the other people involved keep their own records. Routine encrypted backups may still hold a copy for a few days before they are overwritten.

Deleting your account

In the app: Account → Settings → Delete account. Balances must be settled first, so nobody is left with a debt pointing at a deleted person. Deletion removes your profile, email, UPI ID, photo, payment screenshots, notification tokens and activity history.

If you cannot access the app, email the address below from your registered address and it will be done manually.

Security

All traffic is encrypted. Photos and screenshots are stored privately and shown through links that expire after a few minutes. Permission checks happen on the server rather than in the app, so data you are not party to is never sent to your phone in the first place.

Children

SplitFree is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date above changes and the app will show a notice.
